Airtel Offers Free Unlimited 4G Data, Calls For A Year – What Is The Catch?

In a bid to take on Reliance Jio once again, Bharti Airtel is now offering unlimited calls and free data on its smartphones for a year. The latest offer comes with 1.4GB data per day, unlimited calls and 100 SMS per day with the device for a year.
Airtel Online Store till now sold smartphones on easy down-payment and EMI options. But from now on, you can enjoy added free prepaid benefits from Airtel as well.
Previously the plans on Airtel Online Store came with postpaid offers only. Under the latest offer, prepaid users buying a smartphone from the e-commerce store can also free benefits for a year.

Airtel Online Store Offer: Free Data & Calls For A Year!
The Airtel Online Store offer bears free 1.4GB data per day, unlimited calls without any FUP limit and 100 SMS per day for a year. If you break that, it’s 511GB high-speed for a year, 36,500 free SMS and free calls for next 365 days.
Currently, three devices are available under the offer: Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6.1 and Oppo F9 Pro for prepaid users. For postpaid users, other smartphones are available as well.
You can club the offer with an EMI option. Instead of paying an interest, you can buy the same on Airtel Online Store and enjoy free benefits for the extra you are paying.
How To Claim The Free 1 Year Airtel Offer?
If you are a prepaid customer, you can purchase any of the three devices available under the prepaid offer. The company is also expected to add more devices to the offer soon.
So, supposedly you choose to buy Nokia 7 Plus from the Airtel Online Store, you need to make a one-time payment of Rs 7,699 for the device. Now for the next 12 months, you will have to pay Rs 1,734 per month.
As you initiate the EMI, you will start receiving free data, voice calls and SMS benefits for a year.
Similarly, if you want an Oppo F9 Pro, you have to make a one-time payment of Rs 6,015 and have to pay a monthly EMI of Rs 1,714 for the next 12 months. For Nokia 6.1, the down-payment is Rs 4,599 with a 12 month EMI of Rs 1,275.

The 289 Airtel plan seems like an odd gamble with just 1GB of data. A few days back, the company launched a similar voice-only plan 299 priced at Rs 299 offering free calls for 45 days.
Voice calls still remain a huge market and Airtel is seemingly again focusing on the segment with its voice-centric plans.
