Disaster Management Meeting

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

They decided to keep schools open and come up with separate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for them.

Lt Governor Anil Baijal shared details of the DDMA meeting and said that it was decided then that wearing of masks will be made mandatory in public places.

The only exemption is for people travelling together in private four-wheeler vehicles.

Concerns About Schools

The rules were eased not too long back, however they have had to be reimposed in light of the rising Covid cases.

In neighbouring Noida, over 100 people were fined for not wearing masks in public places.

The Delhi government is also concerned about students in schools.

SOPs for schools must be strictly enforced by the school management concerned.

In case of non-compliance or violation of SOPs, an appropriate penalty will be imposed to deter others from flouting rules.

No Sharing, No Entry Without Scan

It has issued a set of Covid guidelines for schools, one of them being thermal scanning for students and staff who won’t be allowed entry without it.

Students should avoid sharing lunch, books and stationery items.

Students, staff, or guests that are symptomatic should be denied entry.

Teachers are now daily required to ask about Covid related symptoms among students or family members during the time of attendance.

Parents’ And Schools’ Responsibility

Parents should be asked not to send their children to school if somebody at their home displays Covid symptoms.

Those with symptoms will have to be taken to outdoor, well-ventilated quarantine rooms.

Some of the symptoms to watch out for include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle ache
  • Headache
  • Loss of smell or taste
  • Sore throat
  • Diarrhoea

Hand sanitisation must be made available and compulsory at the entrances of schools, classrooms, labs, etc.

Other measures include enforcing physical distancing and preventing gatherings near entry or exit gates.
