Whatsapp Jumps Into Community: Will Launch ‘Directory Of Groups’ Feature To Form Massive Communities
  • WhatsApp is about to release a new feature also to make it easier for users to form groups in which a lot of people can connect with each other by being organized in communities.

WhatsApp has slowly evolved and become a lot more than just a medium to stay connected with family members and friends. In a lot of countries, the service is being used for business inquiries and even for making payments. WhatsApp also wants to make it easier for users to form groups in which a lot of people can connect with each other by being organized in communities. From the information available people are speculating that these communities will function similarly to how Slack organizations or Discord servers work. Different groups collected under one topic, open for all members to join.

What is Whatsapp communities?

WhatsApp communities were first seen earlier this year, but now, WABetaInfo is back yet again with a new screenshot which reveals many more details of what the upcoming feature will look like. WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.22.9.10 shows a new section to the left side of the overview of chats that shows a stylised icon of a group of people. When entered, a shortcut to create a new community is also seen, with a description of what communities are: “Communities bring related groups together. Any community you create or get added to will appear here.”

Will replace the camera tab?

Based on this interface, which is not made available to all the users yet, the communities tab is going to replace the camera tab. WhatsApp may add a shortcut to the camera somewhere else in the app, but as of now, it looks like the feature may simply be removed.

The feature is still under development

Currently, the feature is still under active development, so it might be a long while before it is rolled out to everyone. You want to raise your chances of getting access to the feature earlier, by joining the beta testing group on the Play Store if it isn’t full right now or get the latest updates on APK Mirror.
