Even though the participation of women in the Indian workforce has gone down to almost 16 percent in recent months, Indian IT companies are planning to increase female participation to higher levels.  According to sources, to enhance gender diversity at their respective workplaces, IT leaders are planning to hire around 60,000 women candidates via campus placements in the year 2021. The job roles being offered are at entry-level.

HCL, Wipro, Infosys TCS increase women in their workforce

Recently HCL announced its plans to hire 60% of women candidates via campus placement this year. The Noida-headquartered IT firm is gearing up to hire 22,000 candidates for entry-level roles this year.

At the same time, Wipro and Infosys are looking at hiring about 50% of women candidates in entry-level recruitments.  Infosys is looking forward to having a 45% female workforce in its total workforce by 2030. This year it is aiming to hire and train nearly 35,000 college graduates. Bengaluru-based Wipro is aiming to hire 30,000 female candidates via campus placement this year, out of which half are likely to be women.

At Tata Consultancy Services, women’s participation is likely to be 38-45% as it has been for the past three years. TCS currently has 1.85 lakh female associates, is planning to hire 15,000-18,000 more women employees for entry-level roles.

IT has better women participation than the national average

Even though the Indian workforce has 16% women, that percentage is almost double in the case of the IT industry case. As per industry body Nasscom, India’s IT industry has a gender ratio of 33% currently. “As demand for digital talent soars, the industry is further looking at enhancing women participation in the workforce through increased campus hiring, hybrid work models, and skilling interventions,” senior Vice President of Nasscom said.
