Tata Motors passenger vehicle business registered 51% YoY growth in sales in August 2021 as the company announced on Wednesday.

Tata Motors Growth In Sales

Last month, the homegrown automaker has sold 28,018 units of passenger vehicles. 

In comparison to July 2021’s, it was down 7% from 30,185 units.

While comparison with August last year, it has improved since Tata Motors sold 18,583 units during this time.

Currently, Tata Motors is among the few automakers in India that sell electric cars. 

Tata Nexon – Best Selling EV

If we talk about EV’s, Tata Nexon EV is the bestselling electric car in the Indian market. 

According to its claims, the automaker has sold a total of 1,022 units of electric cars last month.

It represents a whopping 234% YoY growth as compared to the same month last year as it sold 306 units in August 2020. 

In comparison with July this year, the carmaker registered a 69% sales growth last month as the car brand recorded 604 units of electric cars in July 2021. 

At present, Tata Motors sells Tata Nexon EV and Tigor EV in the Indian car market. 

Out of these two, Tigor EV has been updated recently with new designs, features and mechanical upgrades.

Growth In Internal Combustion Engine Segment

Moving to the internal combustion engine segment, Tata Motors has sold 26,996 units of passenger vehicles last month. 

Basically, this represents a 48% growth as compared to the same month a year ago. 

Overall, Tata Motors sold 18,277 units of passenger vehicles In August 2020.

With this, the Month-on-Month ICE passenger vehicles sales for the homegrown automaker has seen a 9% dip last month. 

The carmaker registered 29,581 units in July this year.

Why This Growth?

Sources say that the sales growth in August for Tata Motors can be attributed to the low base last year, pent-up demand and increased demand for personal vehicles.

Apart from this, the semiconductor shortage continues to impact the auto industry globally, as informed by the automaker in a release. 

The supply situation has worsened for Tata Motors due to recent lockdowns in East Asia.

hence Tata Motors is forced to moderate production and offtake volumes in the coming months but, the brand has not revealed the exact number of production cuts.
