VOLKSWAGEN TAIGUN

The Taigun is a big deal for Volkswagen and this is going to be a hugely competitive mid-size SUV segment. It is flashy, more of colour and fun. It is not too big yet dynamically sorted compact SUV.

The launch date is expected to be sometime in September of this year, with pricing expected to range from Rs 10.5 lakh to Rs 18.5 lakh ex-showroom. Official bookings have already begun, and the model is now being manufactured at the carmaker’s Chakan plant in Pune.

The SUV is equipped with 1.0L, 3-cylinder and 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engines that produce 113bhp with 175Nm and 148bhp with 250Nm, respectively, and are based on the MQB AO IN platform. 

The cabin has a more upscale appearance and feel. Sunroof, wireless charging, auto lighting, push-button start, climate control, cruise control, and other features are included in the four-seater vehicle.

MG ASTOR 

The MG Astor, which is set to debut in September 2021, will undoubtedly be a strong challenger in the mid-size SUV sector. The MG Astor could become India’s first car under Rs 20 lakh to offer ADAS.

The SUV will be packed with Features like Advanced Drivers Assistance Systems (ADAS) which will be offering varying levels of automation in driving. These include forward-collision warning, emergency auto braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring. 

It will also come with Personal AI Assistant and the Most Powerful Turbo-petrol Engine that will likely be provided with 1.5L normally aspirated and 1.3L turbocharged petrol engines that produce 120bhp and 150Nm and 163bhp and 230Nm, respectively.

The list of features will also include the new Smart iHub connected car tech, Jio-powered internet features, a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, a digital instrument cluster, brown leather on the dashboard and more.

HONDA ELEVATE

Honda Cars India intends to enter the fiercely competitive mid-size SUV category in few years. The mid-size SUV space with a new model (codenamed – Honda 31XA). The company recently trademarked the ‘Honda Elevate’ nameplate in India.

 According to the rumours Honda Elevate could be made available in 5 and 7-seats layouts. The new Honda SUV is reported to share its platform and engines with the Honda City sedan. It might be N7X Concept Inspired and also the new Honda SUV might share its platform and engines with the City sedan. 

As of now, there is no official word on Honda’s new SUV and its India launch timeline. Though, the model is reported to hit roads sometime in 2023.

NEW MAHINDRA XUV500

In 2024, Mahindra & Mahindra will reintroduce the updated XUV500 and this might be a 5-seater that sits above the XUV300 and below the XUV700 in the company’s portfolio.

The basis of the new Mahindra XUV500 is anticipated to be an expanded version that of the XUV300. It may be available with both petrol and diesel engines.

New Maruti Suzuki MID-SIZED SUV

MARUTI SUZUKI which is known for smaller vehicles including hatchbacks and sedans will be launching 3 new SUVs for the Indian market.

Firstly Maruti Suzuki and Toyota JV are working on a new mid-sized SUV, which is rumoured to be based on Toyota’s low-cost DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) platform. 

Maruti Suzuki’s MID-SIZED SUV will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi based facility in Karnataka. Reports suggest that the SUV will arrive towards the end of 2022.
