MG Motors Will Challenge Venue, Brezza With New Sub-4 Meter Compact SUV!

Compact SUV is the hottest segment in the automobile market right now! Pandemic or not, people are flocking to buy these beauties! And automakers are also not getting tired while fulfilling this quench for compact SUVs. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 are already dominating the market. The SUV look and more space than a regular hatchback are driving people towards this segment. Also, as most of the cars in this segment are priced competitively, it adds value to the proposition.

Seeing the response this segment is getting, new players in the Indian market like MG Motors are also getting enchanted to launch new vehicles in the segment.

New MG Compact SUV is in the making

MG India currently offers Hector, Hector Plus, ZS EV, and Gloster SUVs in the Indian Market. The automaker has now confirmed the plans to expand by entering the sub-4 meter SUV segment.

MG Motors will be developing a new platform for sub-4 meter vehicles. The company plans to utilize this platform for future launches as well. Currently, MG is developing a platform for the sub-4 meter SUV. Afterward, the same platform will be used in an MPV and later in a hatchback as well.

Preparing for future

Currently, MG India is targeting to increase the production capacity at its Halol manufacturing facility from 80,000 units to 1,00,000 units per annum.

While talking about MG’s future strategy, Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director at MG Motor India Pvt. Ltd. said, “In the next one-two years, if we can do 1,00,000 vehicles in the Halol plant profitably, then that will be a great achievement. On that foundation, we need to get into the second plant, through collaboration or on our own, and then get into the sub-4m segment.”

The company has not yet announced any specs of the engine, transmission. The car might hit the roads in 2023. The car is expected to get a 1.5 liter naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.3-liter turbo petrol engine. It will be offered with a decent amount of features.
