Honda Can Launch A New Mid-Size Hybrid SUV In India To Fight Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos: Expected Launch Date?

Various reports on the internet suggest that the Japanese car maker, Honda is planning to introduce a midsize SUV in the Indian market soon.

Midsize SUV Launch From Honda

Now, Honda has confirmed the launch of this midsize SUV which is expected to launch in India in 2023.

Besides this, the upcoming SUV could also be offered in a hybrid setup along with the diesel and petrol variants.

This new compact SUV from Honda is expected to share its underpinnings with the Honda City.

We can also expect a 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine which is already present in the Honda City.

If Honda plans to introduce the hybrid variant of the SUV then it could definitely borrow the hybrid powertrain from the Honda City hybrid.

Features And Specifications

The speculation also confirms that the upcoming Honda SUV could be similar to the N7X concept which was earlier revealed in Indonesia during 2021.

Apart from the engine, the SUV could also inherit some cabin features from Honda City.

Coming to safety, this new launch will get some advanced features including 6 airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with Agile Handling Assist (AHA), auto-dimming interior mirror, Hill Start Assist (HSA), multi-angle rearview camera, lanewatch camera, tyre pressure monitoring system etc.

So far, the mid-size SUV segment is dominated by Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in India.

Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun also entered the segment last year (2021).

One can notice that Honda does not have any mid-size SUV in the Indian market as of now.

So, an SUV in the Rs 11 lakh-Rs 18 lakh segment can be a game-changer considering the value for money Honda offers in its cars.

Honda City Hybrid Launch

Recently, Honda has unveiled the new Honda City Hybrid in the country.

The Hybrid is powered by two electric motors that work along with a 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine.

Where 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle DOHC i-VTEC generates a power of 98PS of power and a torque of 127 Nm.

After pairing it with the electric motor the combined power is 126 PS and the total torque of the sedan is 253 Nm.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the Honda City Hybrid offers 26.5 kmpl (ARAI).
