One Mumbai Metro Card Launched: Buy Metro Tickets, Grocery, Food, Medicine & More
In a joint attempt to deliver cashless and contactless travel and essential conveniences to residents of Mumbai, MasterCard, Mumbai Metro and Axis Bank jointly launched the ‘One Mumbai Metro Card’ on July 8 in Mumbai.
Using this smart card, residents of Mumbai can indulge in prepaid, hassle-free and contactless means of travel in the city, along with using it for everyday essential purchases like medicines, groceries, food, or tickets for commute.
Through this initiative, MasterCard has contributed in serving a safer and contactless transit experience to travelers, providing them with a digital, future-ready and sustainable ecosystem.
What is One Mumbai Metro Card
One of MasterCard’s services is to provide transit agencies with the ability to design, develop and deploy customized prepaid digital payment solutions, delivering essential contactless transit experience to riders.
It has provided the same service in integration with Axis Bank and Mumbai Metro, as the ‘One Mumbai Metro Card’, which is a smart card that allows travelers to not just transit digitally and in a contactless manner but also purchase everyday items, at just one tap.
The card has been launched in Mumbai on Thursday, July 8.

Speaking at the launch, Rajeev Kumar, Senior Vice President, South Asia, MasterCard said, “MasterCard is thrilled to partner with Mumbai Metro and Axis Bank to launch the ‘One Mumbai Metro Card’. This will help deliver increased choice, flexibility and confidence in transit experiences for the customers – from seamlessly tapping in and tapping out at Mumbai Metro, to buying their cutting chai, vada pav or for any other daily shopping.”
Benefits of One-Mumbai Metro Card
Travelers of Mumbai metro will no longer have to wait in queues at any station to make payments for tickets, especially at the times of social distancing. This card will provide hassle-free and contactless daily payments, by allowing the users to make prepaid top ups too.
Besides transit, users can make use of this card for daily spending too, like buying groceries, food items, in restaurants and more.
One can get the ‘One Mumbai Metro Card’ made at the Mumbai Metro Station counters.
