The Maharashtra government has finally given in to the reopening of local train services for school teachers, as they have been holding protests and appealing to the state government for the same, in order to assess the Class 10 SSC board examinations.

Local trains have now been resumed for teaching and non-teaching staff involved in the assessment of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations.

Passes for Travel Sent Via SMS

The heart of Mumbai, its local trains have been suspended for the general public since April 2021, due to the breakdown of the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.

However, as school teachers and non-teaching staff of secondary schools and junior colleges have been attending schools at a 50% capacity, to conduct assessments, several teachers requested the state to resume local trains services for them.

Many also protested at various railway stations in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), demanding the same.

In a positive news to this group, the Maharashtra government has now allowed teachers and non-teaching staff indulged in the assessment of Class 10 SSC examinations to use local train services for their commute.

However, they will be issued level 2 passes in the form of an SMS link, which can be downloaded on the phone.

The process will be coordinated by the Office of Deputy Director of Education (Mumbai). 

Central Railways Conducts an Online Survey

On June 16, the Central Railway started an online survey on its Twitter page, wherein it invited the people of Mumbai to post their opinions on resuming AC local trains on the Mumbai Suburban line.

The tweet reads, “We Are Listening! Want to know more about public opinion on AC local services on Mumbai Suburban, a survey is being conducted through Google form (link attached). Kindly fill the form and share your opinion on AC local services.”
