In the QS university rankings released on Thursday, the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) ranked first in India. It ranked 172 in the world, 20 places lower than it was in 2020.

The top 1,000 universities from 80 different countries in this year’s QS World University Rankings. In this year’s top 1,000, there are 47 new entrants, and over 5,500 universities were assessed and considered for inclusion.

The Topmost Indian Institute In World University Rankings

 With a global ranking of 185, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore came in second, one spot lower than the previous year. Whereas the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) ranked third in India, with a global ranking of 193, down from 182 the previous year.

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), ranked 275, was also the next Indian institute to make the list, falling from its previous year’s ranking of 271. With a global ranking of 314, the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IITKGP) also has fallen from its previous spot. In 2020, it stood at 281.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) ranked 350th, also down from 291st the previous year. IITR (Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee) was also the only institute to maintain its ranking of 383 from the previous year

Also, next in line, the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), which had increased its ranking from 491 to 470 this year.

Six Simple Metrics To Capture University Performance 

The performance of universities also has some basic metrics in the QS World University Rankings. There are mainly six basic matrics. Academic reputation (40%) almost by employer reputation (10%), faculty/student ratio (20%), citations per faculty (20%), international faculty ratio (5%), and international student ratio (5%). Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, and Harvard University are the top three global institutes in the World University Rankings 2021.
