Airtel continues to lead the subscriber market, as shown by TRAI’s latest subscriber data.

It has added a total of 6.9 million active subscribers to its list, taking the total count to 336 million in January.

Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd, a domestic brokerage house has reported that  Airtel has continuously been improving the numbers of its subscriber base in the last 6 months.

“The company added a total of 29 million active subscribers since May 2020. With this, it has regained its top spot in terms of active subscriber market share (SMS) at 34.3%. The quality of subscriber additions is reflected in its strong 5.5 million 4G additions taking up 59% incremental SMS.”, said Motilal OSwal in a report on March 17.

Analysts at Emkay Global Financial Services Ltd too believe that due to an increase in Airtel’s subscriber base in Q3FY21 and Q4FY21, its revenue mix and ARPU have improved without a tariff hike.

Jio’s Fall in Subscriber Base Number

Reliance Jio witnessed a loss of 3.5 million active subscribers, bringing down its number to 325 million.

This is the largest loss in active subscribers for Reliance Jio since the peak of the pandemic in April last year.
