The eminent US work visa H-1B, is among the most celebrated and revered among the Indian techies.

Of the 85,000 H-1B visas issued each year by the US immigration, more than 60% visas are allotted to Indian techies.

Additionally, besides US bigshots like Google, Apple, Amazon and Microsoft heavily using this visa to hire multitudes of Indian techies, unicorn startups and tech companies based in the US, like Netflix and Airbnb too have been using the H-1B temporary work visa to hire quality techies from India.

This story will mainly cover the average salary packages paid by such tech companies to an Indian techie, when hired in the US through a H-1B work visa.

Let’s dive into it.

Newer Tech Cos Pay More than Apple & Google

While techies all around the globe would do anything to score a job opportunity in tech giants like Google, Apple or Microsoft in the US, it turns out that newer tech companies, like Netflix, Airbnb and Lyft pay more than these revered tech giants.

While the average compensation paid by Google and Apple to an employee per annum is $144,285 and $139,457, respectively, an employee working in Netflix and Airbnb is paid $205,532 and $168,306, at an average per annum.

As per Netflix, it pays such a handsome amount to its employees, backed on the belief that best programmers are 100x better than average programmers, which is why they should be paid in the similar fashion.

Contrary to this belief, tech giants like Apple & Google attract and hire only the best tech talent and techies still fly for it not due to the salaries but because of the product and company culture, which these giants have created.

More than 5 lakh Indian citizens are working in the US on H-1B visa, becoming the largest beneficiaries of the visa program.
