PUBG Might Launch in India Around Diwali!
The buzz about PUBG’s return to India is doing the rounds for quite some time now.
As per a Tech Crunch report, the reboot preps of PUBG mobile are underway and the launch might take place around Diwali.
Currently, to tackle the issues of government’s concern regarding data and privacy of Indians, the owner of PUBG IP is on a mission to set up India specific servers, stated the report.
This might be good news for the users, but a tough challenge for indigenous game-makers planning on making official launches in the Indian online gaming market.
A Snippet of the Backstory!
In September, the Indian government banned many Chinese apps citing security as the reason. This led to the apps and games being kicked out of Google Play Store as well as the iOS Apple store in India.
According to the survey firm SensorTower, PUBG had around 175 million users in India i.e. 24% of the global installations, thus making the country one of the top-grossing markets for PUBG Mobile.
According to Entrackr, PUBG Mobile was making a massive revenue of Rs 50 crore per month from India last year.
At the end of October, Tencent Games suspended PUBG Mobile’s Indian servers and also surrendered its publishing rights for PUBG Mobile for India to the owner, a South Korea-based creator.
The Korean company that owns PUBG had licensed the distribution rights of PUBG Mobile to Tencent Games, a Chinese company. Now that Tencent was gone, the owner of PUBG was looking for a new game distributor.
