In a highly appreciable reformative move taken by the Government on Thursday, permanent ‘Work from Home’ and ‘Work from Anywhere’ guidelines have been rolled out for the tech industry.
The OSP industry has been requesting for these relaxations that were temporary, to be made permanent and was in dialogue with the government on these reform measures.
Reformed OSP Guidelines Released by the Government
Other Service Providers, or OSPs are bodies that provide services in the Telecom industry. They include The term OSP refers to BPO, KPO (Knowledge Process Outsourcing), ITES, and Call Centers,among others.
As per the new guidelines, registration requirements for OSPs have been done away and BPO industry engaged in data related work have been taken out of the ambit of OSP regulations.
Also, requirements like deposit of bank guarantees, static IPs, frequent reporting obligations, publication of network diagram and penal provisions have been removed.
Along with this, all those provisions which prevented companies from adopting ‘Work from Home’ and ‘Work from Anywhere’ policies have also been stripped off.
It had been reported that the Ministry of electronics and IT had created an inter-ministerial group which coordinates with ministries like telecom, labour and commerce to facilitate large scale reforms boosting WFH and convert temporary reforms as permanent.
This was done to fast track a permanent work from anywhere reform for the Indian IT and ITES industry, which is worth $190 billion.
How Will the Changed Guidelines Help Tech Sector?
PM Modi tweets, “India’s IT sector is our pride. The prowess of this sector is recognised globally. We are committed to doing everything possible to ensure a conducive environment for growth and innovation in India. Today’s decisions will especially encourage young talent in the sector!”
Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad believes this initiative to boost and strengthen the IT/ ITeS/ BPO industry and create a friendly regime for Work from Home in the country.
This will place India as a global outsourcing hub, bringing in a huge increase in employment. This will in turn increase business.
This reflects the Central Government’s strong support to the IT industry, with a view to encourage increased investment in the sector.
Harpreet Singh Saluja, President of Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) says, “We thank and welcome the Central Government’s decision to relax the rules of work from home under the new guidelines issued for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and IT industry.
The reform will certainly unleash the potential of our talented youth by making India a preferred destination for Information and Knowledge Outsourcing Industry and would further the vision of AtmaNirbhar Bharat.”
