‘Limited Edition’ Festival Special Trains!

Earlier this month in a virtual press conference, the Railway Board Chairman and CEO VK Yadav had stated that 200 special trains might run from October 15 to November 30, for aiding the travel in the festive season.

The Railways Ministry gave a nod for Zonal Railways’ proposal of running 196 pairs of Festival Special trains.

The Festival Special trains will be like a ‘limited edition’ thing and will run only till November 30.

The Ministry of Railways announced on October 13, “To clear the festive rush, Ministry of Railways has approved 196 pairs (392 trains) of “Festival Special” services over Indian Railways to be operated from 20th October 2020 and 30th November 2020. The fare for these Festival Special services shall be that applicable for special trains. Zonal Railways will notify their schedule well in advance.”

Fares, Destinations, And More!

The fares of these special festive services will be similar to those applicable for special trains. In other words, the tickets will be billed at “special charges” making the tickets expensive by 10-30% as opposed to the fares of mail/express trains.

The fares will also depend on the class of travel.

With the ongoing Navratri festival and Diwali, these Festival Special trains aim to cater to the growing festive holiday demand. They will operate for destinations such as Kolkata, Patna, Varanasi, Lucknow among others.

The order issued by the Railway board read that these trains will be operated at a speed of 55 kmph.
