With things returning to normal gradually after a 3-month COVID-19 resultant lockdown in India, overall passenger sales are looking up as well.

In March this year, Tata Motors announced the merging of its PV and EV segment and its plans for securing strategic alliances. These alliances aim to provide access to products, architectures, power trains, new-age technologies, and capital.

Tata Motors Car Sales Witnesses A Dramatic Sales Growth!

At a glance, you can see that Tata Motors has been able to post notable sales growth,  for two consecutive months of July, and August 2020. 

The Year-on-Year (YoY) sales growth stands at a whopping 154% whereas Month-on-Month (MoM) sales growth stands at 24%.

In March 2018, the company sold 20,006 units. After nearly 2.5 years, Tata Motors posted such high sales in August 2020.

In other words, improvement in car sales also means an improvement in market share.

In terms of sales, Tata Motors’ market share has exceeded its closest competitor Mahindra.

What is the Real Reason For Growth in Sales?

The current sales trends can be cited to the  

  1. The ongoing festive season
  2. Customers that postponed buying a car due to the lockdown
  3. Many loan or financing options,
  4. Orders that were placed before the lockdown but couldn’t be dispatched, 
  5. A good monsoon season leaves the customer with excess income, 
  6. Customers staying outside of metros and big cities making purchases, and
  7. Demand for small cars.

In July, small car segment was seen gaining fame as people settled for inexpensive cars due to financial instability coupled with easy mobility.

Tata Tiago seemed to have gained more popularity than many other well-established models. It also outsold Maruti Swift, a popular model, by a thin margin. For Tata Motors, the popularity of Tiago is likely to have increased even more in August 2020. 

The company’s newest launch, Tata Altroz hatch has become the company’s third-best seller. 

Meanwhile, the launch of Kia Sonet, Mahindra Thar, Renault Duster will pose a challenge for Tata Nexon.
