Small Car Segment In Demand!
The Maruti Dzire and the Maruti Swift have been some of the largest-selling cars in India for many months. A couple of years ago, the Maruti Dzire was the most bought car throughout the year.
In June, 2020 Maruti Alto overtook models like the Swift and the Dzire in terms of car sales. In fact, it surpassed other affordable models like the Kwid and the redi-GO.
Small car segment is gaining fame as people are settling for inexpensive or lower pierced cars as financial instability due to the pandemic looms over the world.
Tata Tiago: People’s Go-To Car in June 2020! Why?
The element of surprise in the car sales pattern is that Tata Tiago seems to have gained more popularity than many other well-established models, so much so that it outsold Maruti Swift, a costlier and popular model, by a thin margin
In June 2020, Tata Tiago sold 4,069 units. Tata experienced just 26% drop from more than 5,537 units sold in June 2019.
Last month, Maruti Suzuki experienced a huge drop in sales as it sold just 4,013 units of the Swift, as compared to 16,330 units sold in June 2019. This clearly indicates that the popularity of the Swift has taken a massive hit.
Another rival of Maruti Swift, the Hyundai Grand i10, saw a drop in demand by almost 48% as they sold 6,907 units in June 2019 and 3,593 units in June 2020.
All these developments make one thing clear. People are shifting from expensive cars to more affordable ones due to the financial crisis arising due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
