Nokia Media Streamer launched in India at Rs 3,499 against Mi TV Stick and Amazon Fire TV Stick. Flipkart launched the new Android TV streaming box under the Nokia brand as a part of a strategic partnership. The Nokia Media Streamer supports Google Play Store alongside multiple OTT platforms and streaming services, to be made in India from August 28.

The Mi TV Stick was recently unveiled globally in the country as a plug-and-play streaming dongle against Amazon Fire TV Stick.

All these online streaming dongles turn your normal TV into a smart TV.

Flipkart previously partnered with Nokia for a licensing deal to manufacture and sell Smart TV and TV products under the Nokia brand in the country. Flipkart sells Nokia Smart TVs in India under the brand name as the Nokia 43-inch 4K TV at Rs 31,999 with the latest Nokia Streamer device joining the list.

Design, Remote Controls

Mi TV Stick features a very similar shape as the Amazon FireTV Stick. Both the TV sticks come in the shape of a dongle with a USB drive like form factor. The newer Mi TV stick has a dual-tone colour finish on the out with the Mi branding on top.

In comparison, Nokia Media Streamer is a streaming box and not a stick. It similarly uses the HDMI port as the other two to connect to the TV and WiFi. Additionally the Nokia Media Streamer has a multi I/O antenna for better reception with the support of Dolby Audio.

The remote control with the Mi TV stick is a little different having a dedicated Google Assistant button with options for Netflix and Prime Video as well.

Nokia Media Streamer runs on Google’s Android TV 9 Pie operating system. The device comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. It is powered by an unspecified quad-core processor paired with a Mali 450 GPU. The device also comes with a built-in Chromecast and support for Dolby Audio.

Mi TV Stick runs on a quad-core CPU paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of built-in storage. The new Xiaomi TV stick has ARM Mali-450 GPU, and runs on Android 9.0. The upcoming Mi TV Stick in India supports Bluetooth 4.2 for connectivity.

In comparison, Amazon Fire TV Stick similarly runs on a quad-core processor with 8GB of internal storage and Mali-450 GPU. The Amazon TV Stick supports Bluetooth 4.1 + LE for connectivity.

Display, Audio Output

Nokia Media Streamer supports streaming content at a full HD resolution (1920×1080 pixels). Xiaomi Mi TV Stick supports full HD resolution videos offering them at 60fps. The Mi Stick supports Dolby with DTS surround sound support.

On the other hand, the Amazon Fire TV Stick similarly supports Dolby Audio with 5.1 surround sound support.

The Amazon TV Stick also supports full HD content up to 60fps as the new competitor. Nokia Media Streamer has a multi I/O antenna for better reception with the support of Dolby Audio.

Content, OTT Support

Both the TV sticks by Xiaomi and Amazon support all OTTs in the country. The streaming dongles offer a variety of options with the popular ones preloaded. Both Amazon FireTV stick and Mi TV stick supports Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, Netflix, Zee5, Voot, Hoichoi, Sun Nxt and more.

Similarly Nokia Media Streamer supports Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube and all other OTT platforms in Full HD alongside Play Store support. 

Mi TV Stick runs on Android, so additionally you will get access to the Google Play Store for apps. Fire TV Stick doesn’t support Play Store.

Xiaomi Mi TV Stick in India is priced at Rs 2,799 and is available via Mi.com and Flipkart. Amazon Fire TV Stick in India is priced at Rs 3,999, available via Amazon. Nokia Media Streamer in India is priced at Rs 3,499, available via Flipkart. It sits perfectly between the Amazon Fire TV Stick and the Mi TV Stick.

Nokia Media Streamer in India also goes up against Xiaomi’s Mi Box 4K at Rs 3,499 in the online TV streaming boxes segment.
