As per the reports, the Union Cabinet has given a nod to set up National Recruitment Agency to conduct a Common Eligibility Test (CET) for selection for all non-gazetted posts in the central government and public sector banks

How Does It Work?

On Wednesday, the Union cabinet has approved the creation of an NRA, which is tasked to conduct an online common eligibility test (CET) to help in screening and shortlisting candidates for Group ‘B’ and Group ‘C’ posts in the Central government and public sector banks.

According to this development, 1.25 lakh government jobs advertised each year will now have a single entrance examination for all non-gazetted posts — Group B and C posts.

Once qualifying in this Common Entrance Test (CET), candidates can apply to any recruitment agencies for a higher level of examination.

The score will be valid for three years during which candidates can apply for jobs in different sectors depending upon his/her aptitude and preferences.

The test scores from this test will remain valid for three years.

The first CET is expected to be conducted next year, most probably towards the end of the first quarter.

Within the prescribed age limit, the candidates are allowed to have unlimited attempts to better their CET score, so that the best score can be considered.

How Will This Help?

This new CET is expected to reduce costs, inconvenience and time for the government, recruiting agencies as well as for candidates for the whole recruitment process.

The other positive part is now aspirants need not travel outside their respective district to access a test centre, as 1,000 centres being proposed countrywide and every district will have at least one centre.

Apart from that, the money spent on fees for multiple recruitment tests will also be saved.

The CET test score will be generated immediately and also be available to the individual recruitment agency and candidate as well.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “The National Recruitment Agency will prove to be a boon for crores of youngsters,”.

He said, “Through the Common Eligibility Test, it will eliminate multiple tests and save precious time as well as resources. This will also be a big boost to transparency,”.

While Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said, “This decision will benefit job seeking youth of the country,”.
