How did it happen?

JioMart Becomes #1 Grocery Delivery App

Reliance owned JioMart app has now become India’s #1 grocery delivery app.

As per the latest numbers shared by JioMart, they are now delivering 4 lakh orders a day, which is significantly higher than Grofers and Big Basket, and Amazon as well.

While Grofers is delivering approximately 190,000 orders per day (April, 2020), Big Basket is delivering 2.8 lakh orders per day (April, 2020)

We don’t have the numbers of Amazon’s Grocery delivery service, but they are present across 100 cities now, under Amazon Pantry service.

Reliance said, “Grocery witnessed strong customer traction as stores remained open, though with restrictions on operations and products to be sold. Apart from continued momentum in staples, categories such as hygiene products and packaged foods did particularly well leading to higher bill values.”

JioMart has already breached 1 million Android downloads.

How Did JioMart Became #1 Grocery Delivery App?

Compared to other service providers, JioMart is now available across 200 Indian cities, and the providing grocery delivery from nearby kirana stores, and their own Reliance Hypermarket and Reliance Fresh stores.

This massive expanse of their own outlets, and successful partnership with the local kirana stores can be the main reason why JioMart has been able to boost their daily orders to 4 lakh now.

During their 43rd Annual General Meeting, Mukesh Ambani had said, “The USP of JioMart is its smart store price promise. JioMart offers attractive prices on essentials with a minimum 5 percent discount on all products.”

The lockdown, and the pandemic too seems to have helped JioMart, and all other grocery delivery apps.

While BigBasket delivered 1.5 lakh daily orders, they are now delivering 2.8 lakh (April, 2020),and while Grofers delivered 100,000 daily orders, they are now delivering 1.9 lakh daily orders.

It would be really interesting to observe how JioMart ventures into the mainstream ecommerce, and how they can challenge Flipkart and Amazon.
