H1B Visa Ban: Impact On Cognizant Will Be Maximum, HCL, TCS Will Be Least Impacted (Find Out How?)

H1B Visa, the most sought after work visa for foreign workers planning to work in the US has been suspended for the rest of 2020, and this has created ripples across the Indian IT sector.

Most of the big IT firms use H1B visa to bring in employees from India into the US, and complete the client’s works, at a much lower pay, compared to US workers.

And this brings in profit for them.

But now, since the H1B visa has been suspended, this business model will suffer. IT firms will need to hire more locals in America to complete the work, and pay more money, and get less profits.

Lets find out how many H1B workers are employed by the IT companies in the US, to get an idea about the impact of H1B visa suspension.

Cognizant Has Highest H1B Employees In The US

If we see the company-wise breakdown, then we will find that Cognizant has the highest number of H1B employees in the US. There are 24,382 employees of Cognizant in the US, who are on H1B visa.

On the other hand, HCL has only 7199 employees on H1B visa in the US, which is the least among all the IT biggies from India.

TCS is at #2 position with 21,950 employees on H1B visa in the US, while Infosys with 13,042 employees is at #3.

Wipro is at #4 with 10,000+ employees, followed by Tech Mahindra at #5 with 7000+ employees with H1B visa in the US.

This means that the H1B visa suspension will have maximum impact on Cognizant, and least impact on HCL.

TCS Will Not Be Impacted So Much

Now, TCS has second-highest number of employees with H1B visa in the US, but the suspension will have minimum impact on them.

The reason is that, out of all the employees TCS has in the US, only 40% are on H1B visa, and the rest are locally hired.

TCS has 58,874 employees in the US, and out of them, only 40% are Indians on the H1B visa.

This means that TCS is well equipped to handle the void created by the H1B visa suspension.
