Govt Can Cancel Patanjali’s License Over Fake Coronavirus Medicine; Criminal Complaint Filed
In a huge embarrassment for Patanjali, Uttarakhand Govt has issued notice to Patanjali for falsely claiming cure for coronavirus, and selling a medicine which has no license.
In Bihar, a criminal case has already been filed against Patanjali for the same.
It seems that if they continue to sell their ‘100% cure’ for coronavirus under brand name CoroNil, then their license can be cancelled.
Uttarakhand Govt: No, We Didn’t Give Any License For Coronavirus Drug
Uttrakhand Govt’s Directorate of Ayurved and Unani services has clearly stated that they gave license to Patanjali for only selling immunity booster medicine based on Ayurveda, and not any cure for coronavirus.
A notice has been issued to Patanjali, for falsely claiming that their Ayurvedic medicine Coronil can treat and cure all Covid-19 patients in 14 days.
Anand Swaroop, Director, directorate of Ayurved and Unani services, Uttarakhand said, “We are checking the violation in the context of the claims in the light of The Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. We will check what sorts of violations have happened and accordingly issue a notice. If the violations are found true, then their license will be cancelled,”
Dr YS Rawat, joint director state medicinal licensing authority has said that they only issued a license to Patanjali for selling and manufacturing immunity booster medicine.
A notice has been issued to the company for the same, and if there is no reply, then their license can be canceled.
Rawat said, “We didn’t issue any license to them for developing a Covid medicine. They had applied for a license for immunity booster kits. If we do not get a satisfactory response from them, then their license will be cancelled soon.”
Criminal Complaint Filed in Bihar
A criminal complaint against Patanjali has already been filed in Bihar, seeking a FIR and action against Patanjali for falsely selling and advertising coronavirus cure.
The complaint was filed a social activist in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Mukesh Kumar, under IPC sections 420 (cheating and dishonesty inducing delivery of property), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), among others.
Earlier, after Patanjali started advertising and selling their magic medicine for Coronavirus, AYUSH Ministry stepped in, and asked Baba Ramdev led Patanjali to stop selling their medicine, and show testing data.
