Ola Claims Bike-Taxis Will Generate 50 Lakh Jobs In India; It Can Become Rs 35,000 Crore Industry!

The public of India is quite heavily reliant on the cabs and taxis for their daily commute. But cabs and autos do take up a considerably high amount of time to get from one place to another.

Looks like this problem may be solved with the help of the newly introduced concept – bike taxis. Although bike taxis are quite new in India, they sure have a bright future in the country, as revealed by a report by Ola.

Bike Taxis To Create 2 Million Jobs In India: Ola Report Reveals

We all are very well aware and quite wary of the aggravating traffic in India. It is obvious that we cannot afford any more taxis or cars running on the roads that are already congested with huge traffic. Bike taxis can be a way to sort through this traffic and get to our destination on time. 

Ola’s think tank, Ola Mobility Institute has revealed that bike taxis will go on to be very popular in India. The report has also said that this industry has the potential to create as much as 2 million jobs in India. 

This is extremely important, as The Economic Survey of India 2018-19 has estimated that there should be at least 55-60 lakh new jobs for the next decade if the labour force participation is assumed to remain at 60% for the next two decades. 

Bike Taxis To Generate $4-5 Billion Of Revenue In India

Bike taxes are already quite popular in countries like Thailand and as per this report, this business will generate a revenue of $4-5 billion in India.

The report, titled The Power of Two Wheels – Bike Taxis: India’s New Shared Mobility Frontier, states, “Bike-taxis are a popular choice of intra-city travel in India’s urban agglomerations as well as the hinterlands. Bike-taxi operations in Gurugram, for instance, witnessed 100% growth in the number of bookings within seven months of launch.” This report has drawn its conclusion from their discussions with more than 100 taxi drivers in Gurgaon and Jaipur.

This platform also holds the potential to run between urban and rural areas, improving the quality of mobility between these two areas.
