Safety is a major concern these days and not just in day to day life but in every sector. Uber is making sure to cover every aspect of this field. Just some days back we’d informed you via a story that Uber has decided to come up with a new security feature, among others, where it will send a 4-digit OTP verification code to the users.

This initiative is likely introduced to help reduce riders’ one of the biggest grievances, when Uber drivers start a ride without the passenger boarding. This latest feature comes in shortly after the company introduced a few safety features in India.

Now, Uber comes up with a rider insurance, which will your accident costs of upto Rs 5 lakh, in case of an accident during a trip. What is special here is that Uber has launched this insurance programme  at no extra cost.

Uber’s Rider Insurance at No Extra Cost!

As exciting as it sounds, Uber’s such an initiative is at the same time highly appreciable. Uber has launched a rider’s insurance, where in Uber rides come with an accident cover of upto Rs 5 lakh for each rider in case of an accident during a trip.

This is a one-of-its-kind initiative in partnership with Bharti AXA General Insurance and Tata AIG General Insurance.

Shedding light on this matter, the insurance provides cover for physical injury as a result of any accident that might occur while on trip with Uber, from the point the rider enters the vehicle until the end of the trip.

Just like the previous initiative of adding a-digit OTP verification code for its riders, this insurance too is one of Uber’s another commitment towards the safety of each rider.

What Does Uber Have to Say About This?

According to Pavan Vaish, the Head of Central Operations (Rides) for India and South Asia, Uber takes the safety of all its riders at the heart of its business and has always considered as their topmost priority.

Uber expects the initiative to be well-received by the riders , giving them a greater sense of security and assurance when they take an Uber ride.

As per Vaish, a rider will have 60 days to file a complaint, from the day of accident.

The coverage benefits include

  • Accidental Death: Rs 5 lakh
  • Accidental Disability: upto Rs 5 lakh
  • Accidental Hospitalization: upto Rs 2 lakh including OPD benefit maximum up to Rs 50,000.
