Faceapp Removes Ban For Indians; But Faceapp Can Share Your Private Pics With Strangers; Access All Your Pics!

Faceapp, the viral image-editing app which has caught the imagination of everyone from New York to Sydney; from Kathmandu to Chennai and beyond, is finally accessible to all Indians.

Yesterday, complaints had poured in from social media users from India that the app is not allowing them access, and when a photo is being uploaded, they are getting an error.

We too tried to upload some pics yesterday and received “Something Went Wrong” error.

However, today morning, images are being uploaded, and the app is working fine for all Indians.

Some experts had recommended using VPN or Virtual Private Network to access the services, in case they have blocked for Indians.

However, we still haven’t figured out why Faceapp had banned Indians from using the app – Some reports claimed that this app experienced unprecedented traffic from India, and it overloaded their servers.

However, there has been no official statement from Faceapp regarding this Indian-specific ban.

You can upload your images on Faceapp now, and edit them to make you look older or smarter.

But, there is a catch..

Faceapp Can Share Your Pics With Strangers

Privacy is the biggest issue, when it comes to using Faceapp, and the concerns are mounting by the minute.

Faceapp was founded by a Russian named Yaroslav Goncharov, and was launched in 2017. Operating on neural networks, the app can smartly edit your images, and make you look older or younger or fairer in some cases.

There is a humor element into it, as the app renders your original image, and translates into an older version of you, or you can change your hair-style, skin color even gender.

However, the terms and conditions of this app are scary, and if you are paranoid about privacy, then probably you should avoid using this app.

As per the ‘Content Policy’ of this app, the owners of Faceapp can use your private images in any way they want, even commercially, and you won’t be paid.

This is what they say about handling your private images:

“You grant FaceApp a perpetual, irrevocable, nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, fully-paid, transferable sub-licensable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, publicly perform and display your User Content and any name, username or likeness provided in connection with your User Content in all media formats and channels now known or later developed, without compensation to you.”

This means, that the app-makers can share your pics with strangers (read third-party) as you have given every possible consent to use them as they wish.

Some reports also claim that the app will access and upload all your images present in your Gallery, even if you have not given them permission.

Scary indeed, on several levels.
