OnePlus 7 vs Asus Zenfone 6: Which Flagship Packs A Punch? (Pre-Launch Comparison)

After being rivals for almost a year, the upcoming successors of OnePlus 6T and Asus Zenfone 5Z will again be locking horns against each other in India. Both the smartphones will go official during the same period two days apart.

OnePlus 7 launches on May 14, and Zenfone 6 on May 16.

While OnePlus 7 will be readily available in the country, the new Zenfone 6 will take a couple weeks, before it hits the Indian subcontinent.

The regular OnePlus 7 isn’t getting much of any upgrade, but Asus has been working hard on the next Zenfone flagship. The Zenfone 6 will see a huge design upgrade over its predecessor with some updated features and specs.

Design

The regular OnePlus 7 will come with a similar design as its predecessor as leaked before. The same water drop notch display and an in-display fingerprint sensor embedded inside the screen, with an added stereo speakers this time.

Asus Zenfone 6, on the other hand, will come without any notch.

The display will have minimal bezels with either feature a pop-up camera design or a slider design to avoid the notch and a glass back.

Asus Zenfone 6 has a manual slider design, glass back and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, while OnePlus 7 has an optical in-display scanner.

Display

OnePlus 7 will sport a 6.4-inch Full HD+ water drop notched display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It’s going to be a AMOLED display, but not the super smooth one being used in the OnePlus 7 Pro model with refresh rate upto 90Hz.

AnTuTu listing reveals that Asus Zenfone 6 has will come with a Full HD+ display in an 19:5:9 aspect ratio offering a screen resolution of 2340 ×1080 pixels.

The screen size is still not known, but Zenfone 6 will feature Gorilla Glass 6 protection on top.

Hardware

Both the smartphones will run on Snapdragon 855, the current best chip from Qualcomm, built on a 7nm architecture. Again, both OnePlus 7 and Asus Zenfone 6 will come in three different storage models.

The base model will come with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, going up to 10GB RAM and 256GB of space.

Asus Zenfone 6 may come with additional memory support via a microSD card.

Software

OnePlus 7 will run on the latest Android 9 Pie with Oxygen OS on top. The OnePlus 7 series will be getting priority access to the next generation Android Q beta UI. Same goes for Zenfone 6.

The smartphone will run on the latest Android 9 Pie with ZenUI on top.

Camera

Coming to optics, both OnePlus 7 and Asus Zenfone 6 will come with rear dual camera setups. Again, both featuring the same Sony IMX 586 48MP lens as their primary sensors. OnePlus 7 will come with the 48-megapixel Sony IMX 586 lens with an f/1.7 aperture and a 5-megapixel depth sensor.

While, on the other hand, Zenfone 6 will also come with the same 48MP Sony IMX 586 lens as its primary sensor with an additional depth sensor.

Connectivity

Both the smartphones will come with standard connectivity features and USB Type-C Port. Unlike OnePlus 7, Asus Zenfone 6 will come with a dedicated 3.5mm audio jack.

Both OnePlus 7 and Asus Zenfone 6 will come with Dual SIM 4G VoLTE support.

Battery

OnePlus 7 will come with a larger battery 4,000mAh battery this time, backed by it’s newly improved 30W Warp fast charging facility. Asus Zenfone 6 also will come with a larger battery, expected to be a 4,000mAh unit.

Asus Zenfone 6 will also support fast charging and will ship with the adapter supporting fast charge.

Pricing

OnePlus 7 will come at a similar pricing range as OnePlus 6T, starting at Rs 37,999 for the base model with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The official prices are not out yet, but the regular OnePlus 7 variants shouldn’t cost more than the current OnePlus 6T models in India.

Coming to the Asus Zenfone 6 India price, Zenfone 6 in India could come at the same price as Zenfone 5Z starting at Rs 29,999 or a bit more.

Launch & Availability

OnePlus 7 will be unveiled in India on May 14 alongside OnePlus 7 Pro at Bengaluru. The smartphone will be available via Amazon India. On the other hand, Asus Zenfone 6, will launch globally on May 16 in Spain.

The smartphone will hit the Indian market by the end of May, and will be available exclusively via Flipkart.
