Xiaomi launched its second-generation Android One series smartphone in the country in August. Xiaomi Mi A2 was unveiled in India in a single variant at a starting price of Rs 16,999. After doomed flash sales, the smartphone is now available via open sale on Amazon India and Mi.com.

After the launch of Realme 2 Pro, Mi A2 has received a big blow due to its set of similar specs at a more competitive pricing.

Mi A2 and Realme 2 Pro share similar specs, but the latter is available at under 14,000 for the same capacity. But, you can buy a Mi A2 at a special discounted price. The smartphone is now available at a via a discount deal through Paytm Mall at around Rs 13,900.

Realme’s Growing Dominance: Xiaomi’s Awake Call?

Xiaomi Mi A2 and Realme 2 Pro share a similar set of specs, but the Realme smartphone is available at under 14,000 for the same storage configuration. The first Xiaomi Android One smartphone Mi A1 became a rage hit, but the competition has grown fiercely with time and Mi A2 is struggling.

The Indian smartphone market has so many options to offer in the same price range, and the current Mi A2 pricing can’t do justice to what it’s offering. Realme has been able to pack in the same set of specs in a handset available at under 14,000 rupees with a better display, battery and more.

So, it doesn’t make sense for many buyers to choose Mi A2 over Realme 2 Pro by paying an extra Rs 3,000 just for Android One. Xiaomi needs to work on its pricing to take on Realme and Honor in the sub-15,000 segment, or else it will face the same fate as Mi A2.

The company is scaling up gradually and is diversifying its product portfolio in the country. Xiaomi recently unveiled a number of non-smartphone products in India including Mi Band 3 and an all-new series of Xiaomi Smart TVs.
