Just after BSNL inked its 5G deal, now it’s Reliance Jio who is gearing up for its 5G operations in the country. The company has already started to work on the 5G infrastructure, and it will launch its 5G services within six months of spectrum allocation.

The 5G spectrum allocation is expected to start somewhere in late 2019. So if Reliance Jio can deliver by the said deadline, Jio 5G services in India will be live by mid-2020.

Public telecom firm BSNL has already signed a pact on 5G availability. The state company has partnered with Japan’s Softbank and NTT Communications to roll out the BSNL 5G services and IoT technology in India.

5G Spectrum Allocation: Date & Roll Out

The allocation of 5G based airwaves will start by end of 2019. The 5G technology in India will be able to support download speeds up to more than 50 to 60 times faster than the current 4G technology.

Though, before 5G is launched commercially, the country will need an ecosystem of 5G supported devices and technology.

Reliance Jio has an added advantage. The company has a 5G-ready LTE network already which is capable of launching the latest 5G technology-based services.

Reliance Jio 5G Launch: Services Will Be Live Within 6 Months

The company has claimed, with its infrastructure ready, just within five to six months of spectrum allocation, Reliance Jio 5G will be live. Also, the Mukesh Ambani led company is aggressively deploying the optic fiber network that will help it to deliver seamless 5G services.

The optic fiber network will play a crucial role in 5G deployment. Being a key focus factor for the telecom sector, especially for 5G, companies like Airtel and Jio with optic networks will stay ahead for the development of 5G.

Airtel In The Race With Reliance Jio

Along with Jio, Bharti Airtel also indicated the deployment of 5G services with MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV).

Airtel is also working on its Software Defined Networking (SDN) services to make their networks ready for 5G services.

Reliance Jio, BSNL, and Bharti Airtel have a wide optic fiber operating network in the country, which will act as a backbone for their deployment of 5G in the country.

The 5G Ecosystem: Smartphones, Devices & IoT

India is yet to adopt the 5G technology pool. Before the services, the country has to be ready with the ecosystem. Manufacturers have launch devices supporting 5G spectrum band. Without smartphones or devices ready to serve 5G technology, the services will be of no use.

As per the industry experts, unlike the previous upgrades, the 4G to 5G transfer is going to take a lesser time, especially for Jio. The company already has an all IP-based network, so the transition is not going to take much time.

Reliance has already started to work with some of the local and multinational vendors for 5G devices.

The availability of 5G devices is going to be a major roadblock for the commercial 5G rollout. Global devices with 5G support will be available at a mass scale from late 2019 with Qualcomm and MediaTek developing 5G-based chipsets.
