Google Hasn’t Even Announced Android P
The interesting part is that Google hasn’t even announced or confirmed the Android P update. They are busy rolling out the final build of the latest Android 8.0 Oreo, and Google will probably announce Android P at their annual I/O event, which takes place every year in the month of May. So, the existing Nokia phones won’t get Android P update before October or November of 2018.
Android Oreo Update
As of now, all the Nokia Android smartphones run Android 7 Nougat out of the box. Nokia 8 will get Oreo update by the end of this month and the other Nokia Androids, Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6, are expected to get the Android Oreo update before the end of this year.
Timely Updates And Security Patches
Nokia is not taking their comeback lightly, and are working hard to stay ahead in the competitive markets. HMD Global confirmed that all Nokia Android phones will get Android O and P updates till 2018. Besides the Android updates, the company has been rolling out timely security patches and other updates to all these smartphones. Given the price point, they have smartphones from budget to mid-range price category. The company has been regular in pushing out all requisite security patches and updates. Nokia 8 is due for a launch in the country this week.
Keeping The Promises
The company has promised timely updates up to two OS versions when they announced the the Nokia handsets in the country. They are trying hard to make a mark in a crowded smartphone market of India and it will be interesting to see whether this new announcement will boost the sales of the handsets or not in the upcoming months. Android OS Update: Fake Promises
There are companies who make promises regarding future Android version updates during launch, which they fail to keep. When Motorola launched Moto G4 Plus, it promised that G4 Plus will get Android N and Android O updates. Though, when Motorola recently revealed their list of smartphones to get the Android O update, Moto G4 Plus was missing from the list. Android Police noticed how the company silently removed all references regarding Moto G4 Plus receiving the Oreo update. Though later when they were called out, they released a statement about the same.
The Motorola Statement regarding Moto G4 Plus case – “It’s been brought to our attention that there were some errors in our marketing materials around Android O upgrades for Moto G4 Plus. This was an oversight on our part and we apologize for this miscommunication. It’s our general practice for the Moto G family to get one major OS upgrade per device, but it’s important to us we keep our promises, so in addition to the N upgrade it has already received, we will be upgrading Moto G4 Plus to Android O. Because this is an unplanned upgrade, it will take some time to fit it into our upgrade schedule. Watch our software upgrade page for more information”.
Hi, Will there be a link to upgrade to O or P by the users by self?
Looking forward for Android P :p
