Reliance LYF Earth 2

Reliance launched the first smartphone under its Earth series early this year, and it has come out with the second smartphone in the series, that houses a retina scan, on top of a fingerprint sensor.

Launched at a slightly hefty price tag of Rs. 19,999, Earth 2 comes with some decent specifications, features and gesture controls that are usually seen in premium smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S7, OnePlus Three and Google Nexus 6P.

LYF Earth 2 Smartphone Specifications

  • 5-inch full HD capacitive IPS LCD display
  • 1.5Ghz Octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor coupled with 3GB of RAM and Adreno 405 GPU
  • Built-in 32GB memory which can be expanded using microSD cards of upto 32GB
  • 13MP primary camera with laser autofocus, gesture capture and flash, 13MP front camera with phase detection autofocus and flash

  • Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box, 2,500 mAh Li-Polymer battery that provides upto 14 hours to talktime
  • Dual sim(4G+2G) ready

The smartphone is available in Green, White, Gold, Black colours. It is good to see Reliance using the better Snapdragon processors for its smartphones, along with a sizeable amount of RAM enough for a good smartphone. Both the cameras come with built-in flash which is a huge plus for selfie lovers.

How does the handset stand out?

Looking at the specifications above, you might have thought to yourself, even the Moto G4 Plus comes with these specifications at a much lower price. Let’s go ahead and apprise you of the security features the smartphone comes with.

The smartphone comes with a 2.5D curved display that offers 178 degrees viewing angle. The screen to body ratio is high at 72% which is quite good.

Coming to smart security, the phone houses a fingerprint sensor which can be doubled up to launch applications directly without unlocking the smartphone first. Different fingers can be scanned to launch three different applications.

The smartphone also comes with a retina scan, something very fresh and new in the market. Your retina can be used to unlock the smartphone by scanning it from the front camera. Thanks to the flash, even in the night scanning your eye would not pose a risk. For all we know, the retina sensor isn’t very well developed, but at least Reliance is adding another layer of security.

Not to discount the fact that retina sensor is easier to bypass with a photo of yours, but when you’re in good company you need not worry. The smartphone seems to be priced a little higher, but with the benefits of a Jio 4G connection, the overall price seems reasonable.

We are trying to get our hands on the device, and you can expect a full review once we have it!
