Karnataka’s M-One App Offering 4281 Govt Services Launched On iOS/Android Store

We write about Karnataka Government’s M-One app last month, and now it has finally been launched. The app offers over 4000 Government under one single room (aka app). The app has gone live on Google Play Store and Apple app store and is available for download on Android Devices and iOS devices.

View or pay utility bills for services like electricity and water. Choose from service providers like BESCOM (Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company Limited), BWSSB (Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board), and HESCOM (Hubli Electricity Supply Company Limited).

Everyday commute made easy with Karnataka MobileOne. Multiple citizen-centric services like RTO services, BMTC services, Cab booking & Metro Rail (BMRCL) smart-card recharge can be accesses through this platform.
Recharge, view and pay your mobile bills. Choose from major mobile operators like Airtel, Aircel, Loop, MTNL, BSNL, Idea, Reliance CDMA/GSM, TATA CDMA/DOCOMO, Uninor, Videocon, Vodafone.
Pay property tax and apply for birth and death certificates. User has to provide property account details to check Property Identification (PID) Status and can pay property taxes.
Plan your travel and stay. Users can book bus or train tickets and holiday packages.

Receive free SMS alerts on commodity prices and weather. Farmers can also receive help preparing a nutrient or pesticide plan for their crop.

In a unique initiative, the Karnataka government is all set to bring eGovernance to the fingertips of the people of the state via their mobile phones. The service, which is a brain child of the state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, was launched on a pilot-test basis last year and will be launched out in its full and final form in the presence of President Pranab Mukherjee in Bengaluru on December 8. Karnataka will thus become the first state in the country to give all its smartphone equipped citizens the option to access and use government services on their handheld devices.
Named M-one, the app aims to provide single point access to all essential services.
The app will integrate 637 G2C (government to citizen) mobile services of various departments and 3,644 B2C (business to consumer) services, thus making it THE largest government platform in the world.
The state government which had come under flak earlier for not doing enough for industry is keen to improve upon its image which explains why the project was executed at lightning speed under the personal supervision of the Chief Minister. Not only did he put things on a fast track, but went out of the way to make sure that it becomes “a successful model, worthy of emulation.”
To get access to all government services on his smartphone, a citizen of Karnataka will have to download the M-one app on their device. The government hopes to be able to reach out to 86% of the mobile internet users in the state with this app.
With a mobile internet user base of more than 55 million, it is evident that the app will touch the life of millions of people, besides catapulting Karnataka’s image on many fronts. A move that is expected to eventually bring more business and attract industry to the state.
The PayGov payment gateway of the central government will be integrated with the app and users of the app will have the option to pay using debit cards, credit cards, IMPS and RuPay cash wallet.
The concept is unique in the sense that a person residing in the state will not have to visit multiple websites to avail of these simple services.
Imagine being able to pay an electricity bill using your smartphone without having to go all the way and waiting in queues to be able to enjoy uninterrupted power supply or being able to checking bus routes and timings, getting traffic alerts, etc. on a single platform using SMS or interactive voice response (IVR).
“What is being envisioned is a complete thing. It’s a platform service to all the government departments. There are many services which are currently listed, and they will go live. All kinds of services—transactional and informational—you name it and it will be there,” said D S Ravindran, CEO, e-Governance, department of IT.
Now that Karnataka has shown the entire country how to do what was earlier considered a distant possibility, let us hope more state governments take the cue from here and start thinking on similar lines.
