On the occasion of Sixth Passport Seva Divas, Govt. of India has launched a new dedicated app for applying passport.

With this app, any Indian citizen can apply for passport, from anywhere in India!

New App For Passport: mPassportSeva

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj launched this new app, called mPassportSeva for Indian citizens. Available in Google Play Store and Apple Store, this app has been designed to help and educate everyone about the process to apply a passport.

A statement from the Ministry said, “The mPassport Seva App is available in Android and iOS platforms and will have the facilities to apply, pay and schedule appointments for passport services.”

During the launch of this app, Minister for Communications (I/C) Shri Manoj Sinha and Minister of State for External Affairs General (Retd.) Dr. V.K. Singh were also present.

Applying For Passport Becomes Easy!

One of the most interesting features of the app is the power of choice, which is given to the applicants.

Several Indians have migrated and shifted to other places for work, and this posed a major problem while applying a passport, and performing verifications and documentations.

With the new app, any Indian citizen can apply for a passport from anywhere, and choose the Regional Passport Office (RPO) and/or Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) and Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK where he or she wants the documents to be sent and processed.

This makes applying for passport almost location free as proximity to residence is no more required. There are 360 passport seva kendras in India, and anyone can be chosen for applying passport.

Documentation Made Easy!

Besides, only a Aadhaar card number and address proof would be enough to apply passport. There is no requirement of birth certificate and marriage certificate to apply for passport now.

This will immsely help those who don’t have a birth certificate and don’t remeber the name, and absence of marriage certificate will help divorcees to easily apply for passport.

The statement from Ministry said, “With the launch of this mPassport Seva App, citizens would not require access to a computer and printer to apply for passport services,”

However, police verification and delivery of passport would be made only at the location where the applicant has specified his/her address, which shall be the registered address.

Minister Sushma Swaraj has hailed this app as a ‘Passport Revolution’.
