Just last month, Uber expanded their foot print to 7 Indian cities simultaneously, there biggest expansion till date. Now, a month later they have announced another 4 cities where Uber cars will be available. The four new cities include – Guwahati, Nashik, Thiruvananthapuram and Vadodara.

Over last couple of months Uber has doubled their footprint in India taking the total tally from 11 to 22 cities. Uber claims that they currently have over 150,000 driver entrepreneurs on their rolls and are growing at 40 percent month on month.

Neeraj Singhal, Head of Expansion for India & the Subcontinent, Uber said, “We’re excited that the Uber family just got bigger to include four more vibrant cities (Guwahati, Nashik, Thiruvananthapuram and Vadodara). Uber has a simple goal, to provide access to reliable, safe and affordable transportation options for hundreds of millions of commuters across the country and the addition of these new cities to our network take that vision deeper into India. We continue to see exponential growth and adoption in new markets, and are thrilled to be creating thousands of entrepreneurship opportunities for people as driver partners on our platform as we expand into more cities.

Even though Uber is growing aggressively in India, their arch-rival Ola too is going from strength to strength. Ola Cabs is by far the biggest player in this space and currently operate in over 100 cities in India, and plan to grow to 200 cities in the next year or so. By some estimates, even Ola is growing at around 40 percent month on month. Ola claims to have over 250,000 vehicles on their platform. Apart from cabs, Ola has expanded to auto-rickshaws and Kaali-Peeli taxis in Mumbai.

Uber too recently introduced Uber Auto in Delhi, and is expected to launch it in other cities as well.

Uber on their part have been coming up with some interesting initiatives off late – Recently, they came up with “UberPitch”, where Entrepreneurs get to pitch to Mentors/VCs in a Uber car and spend 15 minutes exclusively with them.
