5G Will Be Live Across 20-25 Indian Cities By End Of 2022; 6G By End Of Decade | Pricing To Be Lowest Across World!

Telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that 5G networks will become operational in 20-25 cities and towns by the end of the year.

Deployment

The deployment will start from August-September 2022.

The new timeline is significant since it is ahead of the March 2023 launch date that was earlier scheduled. 

Pricing

The minister also said that prices will likely remain cheaper than the global average since the cost of mobile data in India is already ‘the lowest in the world’.

Data rates in India are about $2 against the global average of $25.

Spectrum auction

The centre this week green-lit the auction of spectrum for 5G bands.

The auction is set to commence on 26 July.

72 GHz will be up for sale for a period of 20 years.

New era

Vaishnaw called it ‘the beginning of a new era for Indian telecom’.

The government said that India could soon emerge as a leading country in the field of 5G technology and the upcoming 6G technology.

In March, prime minister Narendra Modi said the country would be ready for the launch of 6G services by the end of the decade. 

5G benefits

5G technology will be 10 times faster than 4G.

It will also allow a greater number of devices to be connected to a faster mobile network in a smaller area without any loss of speed.

Through greater speed, it will facilitate faster payment options and will also support newer technologies.

5G and sector growth

It is expected to boost growth in every sector like agriculture, health, education, infrastructure, and logistics.

It will also increase convenience and create many employment opportunities.
