E-Auction Rights

Disney Star has won IPL’s TV rights for a sum of Rs 23,575 crore, approximately Rs 57.5 crores per game, even though there were various media reports circulating around claiming Sony to have won this coveted share.

Viacom18 has won IPL’s digital rights for Rs 20,500 crore, meaning an approximated amount of Rs 50 crore per match.

The two deals signed with Disney Star and Viacom18 have made BCCI richer by a combined amount of Rs 44,075 crore, making it among the richest entities in the sporting world.

“Star has retained Indian TV rights of IPL for next five years while Viacom18 has got the digital rights. The combined per match value only from Indian TV and digital rights per game is Rs 1,07.5 crore. With these bids, monopoly of one broadcaster in IPL ends,” stated a senior BCCI functionary.

As per information, the reserve price for the above two package categories, Package A being the Legacy Media Rights (bought by Disney Star for 5 years) and Package B being the Digital rights (bought by Viacom 18), were set at Rs 49 crore and 33 crores, respectively.

In 2017, Star had paid a total of Rs 16,347 crore to BCCI, or Rs 54.5 crores/match, and BCCI had expected to earn at least twice as much money this season, as the base price of IPL media rights in the present season is Rs 32,890 crore.
