The launch of the iPhone 14 is months away and even before the official announcement, some details have already been figured out.

Release Date

Apple’ big events usually take place sometime in September which is also when it unveils its newest products.

So it can be guessed that the iPhone 14 lineup will also launch in September 2022.

Pre-orders usually open on the same day for key regions like the US and shipping starts about 2-3 weeks later.

Other regions follow on.

Pricing

This is one detail which even the most astute insiders can’t pry out before an official debut.

However, an educated guess can be made based on the current lineup’s pricing which is $700 for iPhone 13 Mini and $800 for the regular model.

The iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Max could be priced around those same ranges.

iPhone 14 Models

An iPhone typically comes in different versions, such as an iPhone Mini, iPhone, iPhone Pro, and iPhone Pro Max.

This time around it seems that the regular models of the 14 will not get a Mini version since the Mini doesn’t sell as well.

Instead what we could get is a Max version that has a bigger screen than the base variant.

So this means regular iPhone 14 models with 6.1- and 6.7-inch screens.

Design

Design-wise, the chances of any change are slim.

The two phones could potentially get the same chassis from the iPhone 13 and the 14 Max would simply be a stretched version of the regular 14.

Display, Notches

The two devices could support the 120Hz ProMotion technology that makes certain animations faster.

This feature had been exclusive to Pro iPhones in previous years.

The iPhone 14 Pro models are expected to arrive without a notch which is replaced by a hole-punch and pill design.

Processors

They will reportedly run on the same A15 Bionic chip included in the iPhone 13 lineup.

However it is unclear if the A15 Bionic chip on the iPhone 14 would be the same as in the iPhone 13.

Apple could keep the upgraded 2022 chip exclusive to Pro models.

This would further differentiate the variants and highlight how the Pro models stand out.

The chipset could be tweaked to boost its performance.

But it is the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max that could ultimately ship with the powerful A16 Bionic.

Cameras

The 12MP Wide camera has been a staple on iPhones for a while now and the iPhone 14 and 14 Max won’t be any different.

The front camera and sensor array is also expected to stay the same.

Software

The lineup will likely come with iOS 16 pre-installed or better yet the iOS 16.1.

It all depends on how stable iOS 16 is by the time Apple’s event is scheduled and what Apple is dealing with internally.

Battery, Charging, Ports

The iPhone 14 will likely retain the same specifications for its battery, charging, and ports.

There’s a chance that the phone will get increased battery life through software optimizations.

Coming to ports, it’s the Lightning port once again — the switch to USB Type-C is not expected to happen for this year at least.
