IT Employees From Infosys, HCL, Wipro Are Voluntarily Returning To Office! Work From Home No Longer Needed?

With the number of Covid-19 cases falling down and restrictions across the country easing, companies all around are resuming their offices, calling employees working from remote locations and homes for the past 2-3 years, back to the base.

However, there are still many companies that have not resorted to inviting employees back to office locations, yet it is being seen that a considerable number of workers have voluntarily reported back to the work from office models at large internet technology organizations like Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra and HCL Technologies.

Employees are Returning Voluntarily to Offices

With Cobid-19 daily cases retreating and things starting to shift back to normal, several companies are inviting their employees back to offices, while others that are not, are witnessing a significant number of employees returning to office locations, including IT giants.

Currently, more than 90% of the IT sector workforce is working remotely/from home, and at the country’s second-largest IT major Infosys, about 94% employees are operating remotely, stated its executive vice president Richard Lobo.

However, more employees of the IT giant can now be seen rejoining work from office routines in a hybrid mode, attending 1-2 days a week. The number of employees practicing this model are steadily rising, stated a Times report.

Further, Infosys is also involved in team-building programmes, in addition to a larger number of project huddles, which lead to a rise in the number of employees present in offices on some days.

Infosys’ Phased Plan to Call Employees Back

In April 2022, the Bengaluru-based IT major Infosys informed of preparing a three-phase plan for reopening offices to all employees.

“In the first phase are the people who are in the home locations, which could be in the DC (Development Centre) or join the DC near their home town. We are encouraging people to come at least twice a week,” Infy’s CFO Nilanjan Roy stated.

In the second phase, employees living outside the towns not having an Infosys delivery centre are being asked to prepare over the next few weeks if they can return to these centres, based upon individual circumstances.
