The domestic automaker Tata Motors reported sales of 2,43,459 vehicles in the international as well as domestic markets during the March ending quarter, a 27.2% YoY jump compared to 1,91,373 vehicles sold in the same period last year.

Another star-studded achievement for Tata Motors is its renowned 5-seater SUV, which has advanced to be the best selling SUV in the Indian market, while also ranking among the top 3 best selling cars in the country.

This is the first time ever that a SUV ranks among the top 3 best selling cars in the country, a list every time comprising of only hatchbacks.

Tata Nexon: The Best Selling SUV in India

According to recent data released, India’s top 3 best selling cars consist of Tata Motors’ revered SUV Tata Nexon.

For the first time, an SUV is listed among the best selling cars in the country, outperforming hatchbacks.

Consequently, Tata Motors’ Tata Nexon is also currently the best selling SUV in India, outnumbering Hyundai Creta’s sales.

In April 2022, Tata Nexon sold a total of 13,471 units, recording a 94% YoY jump from 6,938 units posted in Apr 2021. This is the highest growth reported by the top 10 most-selling cars in India for the month of Apr 2022.

In March 2022, TaMo’s SUV witnessed a 65% YoY jump in sales, recording 14,315 units in the month, compared to 8,683 units sold in Mar 2021.

Besides, in Apr, Tata Motors’ Nexon was not the only bellwether in terms of models sold, the automaker’s 5 seater SUV Tata Punch also made into the list of top 10 best selling cars in India.

Its overall sales in Apr 2022 stood at 10,132 units.

In fact, Tata Motors sold a total of 41,590 units, a 68% jump in the figure for Apr 2022 on a YoY basis, compared to 25,096 units sold in Apr 2021.

As compared to March 2022’s sales at 42,295 units, the figure declined marginally by 1.7% in Apr, while Tata Motors continued to hold a market share of 142%, after Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai.
