Jio 5G Testing Shows Astonishing Results: 1.5Gbps Speed Achieved In 5 States!

With the highly looked forward to event in the country’s telecommunications sector, the upcoming 5G spectrum auction, which is expected to be conducted in June 2022, top telecom service providers Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio are all gearing up to launch their 5G services only some months after the June auction.

As per the extensive 5G field trials conducted by Jio across eight states in the country, the telco reported that it achieved a user throughput of at least a speed of c.

Furthermore, the oil-to-telecom conglomerate Reliance Industries released its earnings report for the March-ending quarter after market hours on Friday, which portrayed an almost 25% surge in net profit on a YoYbasis, however, Jio’s customer base continued to reduce for the third consecutive quarter in Jan-Mar 2022 period.

Reliance Jio 5G Speed Tested to be Over 1.5Gbps

With the 5G spectrum auction likely to be conducted in June 2022, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, the country’s top two private telecom players, are expected to launch their 5G services by the months of September or October.

The telcos, including the cash-stripped Vodafone Idea are all gearing up for the 5G launch and conducting 5G trials across the country.

Reliance Jio informed on Friday that it recorded 5G throughput speeds of more than 1.5Gbps while conducting trials across eight states.

Even though this is a commendable figure, it is far less than the trial speeds reported by Vi during its 5G trials last year.

The telco (Vodafone Idea) informed in September 2021 that it achieved peak speeds of 5G downloads at 3.7Gbps.

Reliance Jio Continues Losing Customers in Mar Quarter

The conglomerate Reliance Industries informed on Friday that its telecom arm Jio Platforms lost customers/users heavily for the third straight quarter in Q4 FY22.

The telco lost 10.9 million subscribers in the March quarter, with the total customers standing at 410.2 million by the end of the quarter and the financial year FY22.

The customer-loss in the quarter was a result of:

  • Rise in tariff or tariff hike in December, and
  • Increased SIM consolidation after the tariff hike.
