Handling Demand And Attrition

The hiring spree is motivated by a huge demand for technology services and rising attrition.

In an earlier earnings call, the firm had said that it plans to hire 17,000 freshers in FY22 and close to 30,000 campus recruits in FY23.

Peers TCS, Infosys and HCL Tech have also ramped up fresher hiring and will hire 40,000, 50,000 and 45,000 campus hires respectively for FY23.

Highest Ever Net Addition

Wipro added the highest ever number of people in a year with 45,416 employees for the year ended March 31, 2022- taking the overall headcount to 2.43 lakh.

This is a massive leap from the 14,826 people added in FY21, once again prompted by heightened talent for demand amid shift to digital and attrition spikes.

Its attrition increased to 23.8 percent in Q4 FY22 from 15.5 percent in the beginning of the fiscal year.

Retaining And Attracting Talent

The company responded by increasing the frequency of promotion cycles for 70% of junior band employees.

Chief human resources officer Saurabh Govil said that they are also offering fresh joinees clear five-year career paths.

Wipro is also working with partners to train freshers as full-stack engineers before joining so that they can enter the workplace at a higher salary.

It has also started aggressively hiring IT professionals, as evidenced by its doubled fresher hiring target.

Back To Office?

The firm will adopt a hybrid model when it comes to return-to-office plans.

They will both encourage people to come to the office and also accept it if they prefer to work from home.
