Zerodha Employees To Get Bonus For Being Healthy!

The CEO of Zerodha, Nithin Kamath, said that this bonus will be offered for employees who have a BMI of less than 25. He said that measuring a persons body mass index or BMI is the easiest way for them to start their health and wellness journey.

In addition to that if an employee manages to bring his or her BMI under 24 by August they will also get another half month’s pay as a bonus.

This bonus is being offered to mark World Health Day.

His tweet announces the bonus saying, “Anyone on our team with BMI <25 gets half a month’s salary as bonus. The avg BMI of our team is 25.3 & if we can get to <24 by Aug, everyone gets another ½ month as a bonus. It’d be fun to compete with other companies ?

The lowest average BMI or the largest change in average BMI wins. The winner chooses a charity everyone else contributes to. Maybe a health tech company can run the initiative.”

He has also invited other companies to Participate in similar activities in order to promote healthy competition.

Getting Started Is Most Important

He said that BMI is not the best measure to track health and fitness but is the easiest way to start somewhere. As per Kamath, with health and most other things in life, the most important bit is to get started.

In 2021 too, we had reported that Zerodha asked all its employees to set a 12-month get-healthy goal. They were asked to update the progress every month so that it creates accountability.

To promote more participation, Zerodha promised a one-month salary as a bonus to employees who will reach their goal and stay fit and healthy. The company also announced one lucky draw for Rs.10 lakh.

The monetary compensation and lottery money rewards showed phenomenal results for the company. It was in 2021 that Kamath was impressed by the results of Zerodha’s ‘Get Healthy’ program and announced to run this permanently. The purpose behind sharing this idea was to inspire and seed the idea in other entrepreneur’s minds.
