New Tata Nexon Electric With 400 Kms Range Launching On This Date: Pay Rs 18 Lakh For This New Variant

Tata Motors will launch the long-range version of the Nexon EV on April 20th.

It has already been spotted on multiple occasions during test drives.

Battery

The long range Nexon gets a battery upgrade from 30.2 kWh to 40 kWh.

It is 30 percent larger than the current battery pack.

The ARAI-claimed range could increase from 312 km to 400 km.

However, the true hike in real-world range may lie somewhere from 200 km to 300 km.

The boot space is decreased although the larger battery pack will be stored there.

Tata might take out the spare wheel and replace it with a tyre puncture repair kit.

The boot space will be kept vertically same as with the Tigor EV.

A bigger battery pack means additional weight on the car.

The petrol Nexon weighs 1.2 tonnes, the diesel engine weighs 1.3 tonnes and Nexon EV adds another 100 kgs, taking its weight to 1.4 tonnes.

The additional batteries will weigh an extra 100 kgs, keeping the long-range EV’s weight at just under 1.5 tonnes.

This EV gets a few extra features.

Electronic Stability Program and rear disc brakes will add to the safety side of things.

Adjustable regeneration will help improve the driving range.

Other additions include ventilated seats, Park Mode, and Cruise control.

Cosmetically, it will remain unchanged, except for the alloy wheel design and a new badging.

The current Nexon EV with 30.2 kWh will remain available despite the launch of the bigger battery sibling.

Those using the Nexon EV for daily commutes and city chores can opt for the regular 30.2 kWh version.

The bigger battery version could appeal to those wanting to undertake long journeys which will require longer range.

All these upgrades come with a price.

It is expected to start from somewhere around Rs. 17 or 18 lakhs.

In comparison, the regular Nexon EV starts at Rs. 14.24 lakhs and the top-end variant costs Rs. 16.85 lakhs.

Upon launch this month, it will go against the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric.

The Nexon EV with its cheaper costs has an edge over the other two because the ZS EV and Kona Electric come to India through the CKD route.
