Microsoft Will Create India’s Biggest Data Center Region In This City; Acquires Rs 275 Cr Land

Microsoft has now acquired three land parcels in Hyderabad and will reportedly be launching a data center. For this, the tech giant has spent a whopping Rs. 275 crores.

The company already has its operations running in Pune, Mumbai, and Chennai, which have already been up and running for the last 5 years now, and Hyderabad will be an addition to these.

Microsoft Acquires Rs 275 Cr Land In Hyderabad

For the Hyderabad data center, Microsoft has acquired 22-acre in Mekaguda for around Rs 40 crore, 41-acre in Shadnagar for Rs 164 crore, and 52-acre in Chandenvelly for Rs 72 crore.

As per sources close to the development, “Microsoft has big plans to expand its data center business and will be developing one of the biggest data centers in the region. Various state governments have already announced incentives for companies investing in data centers and have attracted investment from multinational companies.”

The deal has been facilitated by International property consultant Cushman & Wakefield. 

In a statement issued by Microsoft, it has been confirmed that the new data center in Hyderabad will “deliver advanced data security and cloud solutions that will help enterprises, start-ups, developers, education, and government institutions.”

The company announced on Monday its decision to establish its largest data center region in the country in Hyderabad, Telangana. It will reportedly be on the land in Chandenvelly, spread over 52 acres.

Microsoft Contributed Additional $9.5 Billion To Indian Economy

As per IDC, the data center regions of Microsoft in India have contributed to an additional $9.5 billion of accumulated net-new revenue to the economy, over 5 years (2016-2020).

Customers will reportedly get quicker access to the entire Microsoft Cloud, which includes Microsoft Azure through the new data center region. This will help deliver trusted cloud services locally, and also offer world-class data security, privacy, sustainability, and the ability to store data in-country.

Microsoft has recently announced that they will be spending $68 billion or roughly Rs 5 lakh crore to acquire Activision Blizzard. This way, Microsoft will be spending $95 per share (Rs 7000) to acquire this gaming giant. 

After Microsoft acquired Linkedin for $26.2 billion (roughly Rs 2 lakh crore), this is their 2nd biggest acquisition ever. 

After this acquisition, Microsoft has beaten Nintendo to become the world’s 3rd biggest gaming company after Tencent and Sony.
