There is a saying which goes something like this – ‘United we win, Divided we fall’. And this saying is directly applicable in the case of our fight against Covid-19. For the last 2 years, we have been fighting the virus, together. And the fight isn’t over yet. It doesn’t help us if only a few of us are vaccinated and many are not. The pandemic can’t be contained that way.

And hence to curb it, many organizations are making it mandatory to for their employees to get vaccinated. T—Mobile US just joined the club.

T-Mobile US to fire unvaccinated employees

According to reports, T-Mobile US Inc. will fire corporate employees who are not fully vaccinated against Covid-19 by April 2. In the email to U.S. employees, the company also said that the office employees who haven’t received the first dose of a vaccine by Feb. 21 will be placed on unpaid leave.

It should be noted that the policy applies to all employees who need “regular or occasional” access to T-Mobile’s offices, which the company says includes almost all staff.

At the same time, the company has announced that exemptions will be made for medical and religious reasons.

Proof of full vaccination will still be required by April 2. During the same period, T-Mobile intends to bring all representatives back to on-site or hybrid work environments.

Rules are different for employees working in customer service centers

The company also said that the rules will be slightly different from those in customer service centers to “avoid impact to customer experience.” Instead, support employees will still have to show proof of the first dose of a vaccine by Feb. 21, but they will not be placed on unpaid leave.

The vaccine rules and decision to terminate unvaccinated employees won’t apply to field technicians and most in-store retail roles. Still, the company is encouraging the shots and regular testing for those workers.

With this decision, T-Mobile has joined a league of companies like American Express who have mandated the vaccinations. T-Mobile is one of the biggest firms to tell staff that they will be terminated if they do not receive the shot.

Notably, last week, the Biden administration withdrew plans to require certain large businesses to mandate Covid vaccines.
