The Karnataka Government has added four new online services on the Sarathi platform, related to driving license service, after adding 6 such online services on the platform on Nov 1, 2021.
This means there are 10 DL-related services available for riders in the state now. Motorists can now renew their driving licenses without visiting RTOs.
Four New Driving License-Related Services Added Online
The Karnataka government has added four DL-related services online, to the already 6 services present on Sarathi, taking the count to 10.
The 4 new services include renewal, issuance of duplicate one, change of address and name in the license.
The six online DL services already present online include:
- issuance of learners licence (LL)
- change of address in LL,
- Driving license extract,
- issuing international driving permits,
- Changing one’s name on LL, and
- Issuing duplicate LL.
These were introduced by the state government on Nov 1, 2021.
The principal secretary of the state’s transport department, Rajender Kumar Kataria, states,
“Contactless services like the renewal of DL will benefit lakhs of vehicle owners across the state. They can avail of these services from the comfort of their home and pay fees online.
Very soon, citizens will need to visit RTOs only for driving physical tests and fitness certificate renewal. All other services will be contactless/faceless.”
Transport Department Data
As per the state’s transport department’s data, about 23.5 lakh motorists applied for a learner’s license in 2019-20 and this figure stood at 17.7 lakh in 2021-21.
Also, anyone looking to avail faceless services for LL or DL issues will have to confirm the authentication with Aadhaar-based e-KYC.
About 1.01 lakh driving license applications were received in the state through the e-KYC for DL-related services (Sarathi) from Nov 1, 2021, to Jan 22, 2022, and of this number, about 96,985 applications were disposed of, states a TOI report.
Most online applicants continue using offline mode or non e-KYC indicated the state’s data.
