Recently, the Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV became the best-selling electric vehicle in the nation. According to a report, in December 2021, the Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV reported an eye-popping sales figure of 50,561 units. The car posted a YoY growth of 42.9 percent, beating the likes of the BYD Qin and Tesla Model 3 and setting an all-time monthly high record.

The biggest car market in the world China is now also the biggest EV market in the world as well. Imagine an EV selling more than three highly popular cars from India’s top manufacturer! This actually shows us how big the Chinese car market is, compared to India’s.

It should be noted that Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV also became the first-ever electric car in China to reach a monthly sales figure of more than 50,000 units. The Tesla Model Y set its own record of 40,500 units sold in the country. The Tesla Model 3 also broke its record by reaching sales of 30,102 units in December 2021.

In 2021 Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV witnessed 250% Y-O-Y Growth

The microcar Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV reached a total sales figure of 395,451 in 2021 which translated into a 250.7 percent YoY growth. The BYD Qin which took the second spot sold 187,227 units, and the Tesla Model 3 recorded sales of 150,890 units and came in the third spot. Cumulatively, more than 500,000 units of the MINI EV have been sold in China in the last 19 months from June 2020.

Even though the Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV cannot be directly compared to the standard cars like Model 3 or Model Y, the MINI EV’s affordability and practicality is helping it to gain popularity in the nation creating a stronger demand for the vehicle.
