Once again, the rising Omicron Covid-19 cases in India has forced Indian firms to choose a remote working model with the start of the new year.
IT Firms Continue To Work Remotely
Not only India, several companies all over the world have started work from home models.
Be it information technology or e-commerce majors, most of the players have requested employees to readopt work from home.
Earlier, IT firms like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Cognizant had earlier decided to open offices with 50-70 percent workforce from January this year.
But, the raging Covid-19 variant Omicron had other plans as it had put the company’s plan on hold for now.
While facing the situation, the authorities implemented a hybrid working model in various states, including the national capital.
The Companies who are providing essential services would be allowed to operate offices during this time.
While, rest will already be shifted to a remote working facility to prevent the virus from spreading.
The IT major, TCS said, “90 percent of its associates were working from home. Any plans to return to office will be a calibrated move,” last month.
Cognizant also said it would continue the work from home model for prioritizing the health and safety of employees and contractors.
While, HCL Technologies announced that it would continue to monitor the emergence and impact of Covid-19 variants before calling people back to office.
What About Central Govt Employees?
The center has allowed 50 percent of its employees below the level of Under Secretary to work from home amid Covid-19 fresh wave earlier.
Employees with disabilities and pregnant women employees have been exempted from attending the offices, according to the personal ministry order.
Apart from this, the government is following staggered timings for its employees to maintain adequate social distancing.
In case of Covid containment zones, all the officers/staff have been exempted from coming to office till the containment zones are denotified, as per the order.
Basically, increasing cases of Covid-19 have forced the states to take severe measures such as night curfew, weekend lockdown and closure of offices and schools to prevent the virus spread.
