IBM’s Warning To 73,000 Employees: Get Vaccinated Or Face Suspension With No Salary

After a very long hiatus of almost 1.5 years, the world is finally opening up. But this getting back to business is not going to happen without any conditions. Various organizations have made efforts to rearrange their office places so that there is minimum possibility of Covid infections spreading at the offices. Along with that corporates are incentivizing their employees to get fully vaccinated as soon as possible. And,  now some organizations like IBM have even resorted to the threat of suspension as well.

IBM warns employees of suspension if not vaccinated by Dec.8

International Business Machines (IBM) Corp. has announced that all of its U.S.-based employees must be vaccinated by Dec. 8 or they will have to face an unpaid suspension. The New York-based company has informed its workers that as it’s a government contractor, it’s required to adhere to President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate for federal contractors.

IBM said the new mandate will apply to all U.S. employees regardless of where they work or how often they go into a company office. At the same time, it should be noted that IBM will also offer “limited” medical or religious exemptions.

This is a precautionary measure amid a continuous outbreak of the virus

A company spokeswoman said in a statement, “the decision was prompted by “the continued spread of Covid-19, local clinical conditions around IBM sites, and the reality that vaccines are readily available nationwide. As we’ve said throughout the pandemic, IBM’s health and safety practices are driven by science.”

It should be noted that in June, IBM had asked its U.S. employees to return to the office by September but was then forced to shut down New York City locations amid rising Covid-19 cases in August.

Still, with the current effort to increase vaccination, we can imagine IBM offices will soon be buzzing with people again.
