Meesho, a social commerce platform has now announced a new leave policy for all new parents. Yes, the company has announced a 30-week gender-neutral parental leave policy.

Meesho’s Introduces New 30-week Gender-neutral Parental Leave Policy

The new leave policy is a huge indicator of a significant change in the traditional leave policies for parents.

Meesho is an Indian-origin social commerce platform that enables small businesses and individuals to start their online stores via social channels such as WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram. Great for people buzzing with ideas and a good business acumen.

Last year, The Facebook-backed Meesho launched the ESOP buyback plan worth $5 million (approx. Rs 37 crore).

This plan will allow the employees right from junior level to senior executives to vest 100% of their shares. The current ESOP buyback plan by Meesho will be the second such initiative by the company.

As per a statement by Meesho, this policy has been introduced with an outlook to provide fulfilling employee experiences keeping in mind the caregiving and growing a family. 

The company has stated, “The 30-week leave policy applies equally to women, men, heterogenous or same-sex couples so they can stay present for their children and also does away with the differentiation between natural childbirth, adoption, and surrogacy.”

Leave Policy Covers Primary, Secondary Caregivers, Live-in Partners And More

The entire workforce at Meesho’s is 1000. 

As per the statement, the policy will indicate how the societal beliefs are changing and will also make sure that non-discriminatory benefits are offered no matter the gender or sexual identity of the employee.

As per the company, if the employee is a primary caregiver, they can take up the leaves up to one year (30 weeks fully paid leave and 25 per cent pay for the next three months. And if the employee is a secondary caregiver, they will be eligible for up to 30 days of leave (applicable up to one year from adoption or childbirth).

 Meesho Chief HR Officer Ashish Kumar Singh, “We have used this policy revamp to simplify the benefits and flexibility based on the caregiver’s role, rather than gender so Meeshoites can be entirely present for their family.”

This parents leave policy makes sure that there is no discrimination based on gender, sexual identity, marital status, or the circumstance of parenthood, and also covers live-in partners.
